Who doesn’t love the classic, timeless combination of gooey melty marshmallows and rice cereal? Add a little ✨special✨ ingredient and there is REALLY no topping this sweet treat.
Rice Krispy treats, in general, are simple treats to make. With only three or four ingredients, depending on flavor preferences, of course. It doesn’t get easier! Unless we’re making chocolate bark, but we’re not! I used Jet Puff mini marshmallows, classic Rice Krispy cereal, pure vanilla extract, and my homemade budder. I start by melting about 6 tablespoons of my budder over low heat, careful not to allow it to exceed 190 degrees Fahrenheit.
Once the budder is all melted, I add five cups of my six cups of marshmallows, saving one cup aside for later.
Turning the heat up to low-medium, I then melt the marshmallows until fully combined with the budder. It should look something like the image below.
When my budder and marshmallow mixture is homogenous, I immediately remove it from the heat and then add my six cups of rice cereal combined with the last cup of marshmallows.
I then carefully transfer my Rice Krispy Treat mixture into a parchment-lined baking dish (about 9’ x 12.8’) and gently press down to fit the dish. I’m careful not to press too hard. The tighter the mixture is packed, the stiffer the treats will become. Allow to set at room temperature for about one hour, and enjoy!
Disclaimer!!! BE RESPONSIBLE! If you have children, DO NOT MAKE THESE AROUND THEM. I also highly recommend parents make a separate batch for the kiddos. Use a different kind of cereal, sprinkles, or some other add-in to distinctively mark which is which, AND DO NOT LEAVE THEM WITHIN REACH! Like any other medication in the household, these types of things should also be kept out of reach of children! I can NOT stress this enough with the rise of child poisonings being reported. We are all aware that many of the edibles we bring home from our legal shops are marketed to look a lot like candies and other treats we are familiar with, and we are ALL aware that these types of products are not only intended for children but ARE NOT SAFE FOR CHILDREN. INGREDIENTS:
6 cups any kind of rice cereal
6 cups marshmallows
1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract (for a homemade flavor)
6 tablespoons budder
INSTRUCTIONS:
Step One: in a medium-large pan, melt budder over low heat
Step Two: Once the budder is melted, add 5 cups of marshmallows, saving the last cup for last.
Step Three: Once marshmallows and butter are fully combined, add six cups of rice cereal and the remaining cup of marshmallows.
Step Four: Line a 9’x12.8’ baking dish with parchment paper, and carefully dump the Rice Krispy mixture into the baking dish, gently pressing down to fit. DO NOT PRESS TOO FIRMLY as this will lead to extremely hard treats! Pro-tip- wet fingertips with water so it’s less sticky and messy!
Step Five: Let rest for 60 minutes, slice, serve and enjoy!
